Our project brief was to design a modern and functional living space that would take advantage of the stunning views surrounding the site. We integrated innovative technologies such as a Heat Recovery system and Underfloor Heating Solutions into the design. We also provided a sewerage system and treatment plant, with secondary and tertiary treatment and all associated works, located in Carrick-on-Shannon, Roscommon Ireland.
The site is approximately one acre and has a stunning outlook over the surrounding rural countryside. The site is bounded by privately owned dwellings to the north and east, an open field to the west and south, and has existing established hedges and trees facing the main road to the east, with established hedges and trees to the north boundary.
Our proposed dwelling design carefully considered its relationship to the surrounding area and adjacent neighbors, taking into account existing contours on the site and utilizing existing site levels. We designed the access and driveway along a straighter section of the road with good visibility, offset from the existing roadside boundary, and planted new hedgerows and natural trees to match the existing ones. The visibility splays of 90m for local roads were also determined.
As Chartered Architectural Technologists, our goal is always to deliver the highest standards of design, while respecting the local guidelines and the setting of the adjacent properties. Our aim was to provide an innovative, low energy, environmentally friendly and sustainable design solution, using the manipulation of light, space, site context, orientation, and end-user requirements.
In total, the gross area of the dwelling is 279.80 sq.m. We are proud to have delivered a beautiful and functional home that meets the highest standards of design, while also being environmentally conscious and sustainable.
